We went to aid station 3 in Ramona first, we took the 15 freeway to the 56 to get there in about 30 minutes.

After that we headed to aid station 2/5  off of highland Valley Road, which took another 30 minutes. There was a bit of cycling traffic headed there, so if you go drive slow and keep your eyes open for cyclist during the race.

** these aid stations were for the MTB 2026 race, that doesn't mean they will be the same for any other year!

BWR

San Diego - CA

We headed out of El Cajon arounds 5:30 am and got to the polo fields around 6:15 am. This was great because we got front row parking, the boys got to ride before there was traffic and we got a lay of the land  before the wave of riders and support got there. The race start wasn't for another 2 hours, Kevin had time to warm up and we got to make a game plan for the day.

Shortly after the race started the parking lot was full and the road out was clear. I loaded up the boys and headed straight for  the Ramona aid station. This aid station was easy to locate, there was lots of parking, and good bathrooms. We parked near the box truck that was unloading everything. We offered to help and then we were quickly put to work. The boys helped set up chairs, fill 100 water bottles, lay out snacks, cheer on the riders, and passed out so many bars, gels, and hydration. Kevin came through just a bit after the elite guys  and he was in great spirits and stoked. Kevins parents came to the aid station for the first time. This is is perks of having a local race. He got to see them which was fun, usually he doesn't stop at the aid stations but he did just for them!

After we fed Kevin, we said thank you to the aid station people and headed out to the next one, for us the plan was to head straight to Highland valley Road. When we go there, there was limited parking. We squeezed the mega van on the side of the road, confirmed with the sheriff that it was a safe and legit location to park. After he gave us the green light we walked the thin line on the side of the road to the set up aid station. This one had a theme and they went hard! Jerrasic park and Dinosaurs everywhere from the table cloths to a man wearing a Dino costume. It was great. they had great energy and we cheered and waited for Kevin. While waiting we saw riders coming down the super steep windy road and it was already the elite men. They didn't stop for anything they just flew down the hill. This location was hard to properly feed the riders because by the time they got to us it was the very last bit of the huge fast paced decent. If you weren't going to fully stop or slow down a ton you were going to miss the feed. Anywho, we got Kevin fed and he was on his way! That is when we headed back to the finish to wait, cheer, and watch.

At the finish we met up with some friends, ran in the grass and took photos of the finishers. Waylon our son was at the podium when the elite were getting their awards and such and he was gifted a freshly won pair of super cool headphones by Daxton Mock ( the winner of the 106 mile Waffle ride). He is so sweet and it really made Waylons day. When I say the cycling community is soooo good, this is just one example of that! We are so blessed to have aligned with these people lives. God is good!
